  • Off-peak: Cheapest flights + hotels, but expect rain/heat/closures depending on country. Worth it only if budget is tight.
  • Indian school holidays (Dec 20-Jan 5, May 1-Jun 15, Oct): Indian-route flights spike 30-50%. Avoid if dates are flexible.
Nepal specifics

Oct-Nov post-monsoon is the iconic trekking window, clear Annapurna and Everest views from Sarangkot/Poon Hill, 5-15°C in Pokhara, dry trails. Mar-Apr is the second window (rhododendron season + warmer). Jun-Sep is monsoon, leeches on trails, clouded peaks. Dec-Feb is cold trekking with Himalaya snow line down to 2,500m. Dashain (early Oct 2026) closes shops Kathmandu-wide for ~4 days. Nepal is the cheapest abroad on this list (₹1.5-3k/day) and Aadhaar gets you in, the only country with this exemption.
