Bali tourist levy 2026: how Indians pay the IDR 150,000 (and avoid scams)
Bali levy IDR 150,000 (~₹825) is mandatory for Indians from arrival. Pay online before flying — paying at the airport adds 30-60 minutes of queueing.
Bali introduced a tourist levy on 14 February 2024: IDR 150,000 (~₹825 at May 2026 FX) per foreign visitor, including all Indian passport holders. Two years in, the implementation has stabilized — here's exactly how to pay it.
What it is: - A one-time fee per visit (NOT per day, NOT per person stay) - Goes to environmental and cultural preservation of Bali — beach cleanup, temple restoration, cultural events - Officially called "Pungutan Wisatawan Asing" (Foreign Tourist Levy)
Who pays: - Every non-Indonesian passport holder arriving in Bali (any airport / sea port) - Indians arriving via Jakarta/Java who then travel to Bali pay it WHEN entering Bali (domestic transfer) - Children pay full price (no discount under-18) - Diplomatic / official passports exempt
Who's exempt: - Indonesian nationals - Diplomatic visa holders - Crew members - People entering Bali but exempt under specific bilateral agreements (very few)
How much (May 2026): - IDR 150,000 = ₹816 at current FX (1 IDR = ₹0.00545) - USD ~$9.20 - EUR ~€8.20 - GBP ~€7.10
The CORRECT way to pay (saves 30-60 min at airport):
1. Go to lovebali.baliprov.go.id — the OFFICIAL portal (note: ends in .go.id, not .com) 2. Fill in passport details, arrival date, accommodation 3. Pay via Visa/Mastercard 4. Receive QR code by email 5. Save QR on phone (offline) — Bali airport WiFi is unreliable 6. At arrival in Denpasar (DPS), show the QR alongside passport
The WRONG ways (these cost more or fail):
- Pay at the airport on arrival — official kiosks exist but queues are 30-60 min. Officers prefer pre-paid. - Clone sites — Google ads often promote ".com" clone sites charging $30-50 for the same service. The official site is .go.id and charges IDR 150K (~₹825). - Hotel-handled — some hotels offer to pay for you and add to bill. They mark up to ₹1,500-2,000. Skip.
Common scam warning:
Search "Bali tourist levy pay" on Google and you'll see ads from sites like balitourismlevy.com, lovebalifee.com, payforbalifee.io. These are clone sites. The official Bali Province portal is lovebali.baliprov.go.id — the .go.id TLD is reserved for Indonesian government. Always check the URL before paying.
What if you don't pay in advance:
You can pay at the airport on arrival, but expect: - 30-60 minute queue at the levy counter (separate from immigration) - Cash USD or IDR only — no INR, no card at some counters - Friction if you have multiple connecting passengers
Refund policy:
If you cancel your trip, the levy is non-refundable. No exceptions even for medical emergencies (insurance may cover but you have to claim).
How to verify your QR works:
A few days before flying, log back into lovebali.baliprov.go.id and check your application status — it should say "VERIFIED" or "ACTIVE". If "PENDING" for more than 24 hours, contact lovebali@balitourism.id.
