Indian passport visa-free countries 2026, full updated list (60+)

Updated 2026 list of every country Indian passport holders can visit visa-free or with the lightest possible visa. Vietnam, Thailand, Kazakhstan added since 2024.

The Indian passport's 2026 ranking on the Henley Index sits around #75 (rank varies by report), ~55 visa-free destinations after Iran's visa-free pilot was suspended late Nov 2025, Bolivia downgraded to e-Visa in 2026, partially offset by Sri Lanka's free-ETA extension and the Philippines additions/extensions. Thailand's 60-day visa-exemption was reverted to 30 days on 21 May 2026 (same free stamp), Vietnam moved from visa-exempt to paid e-Visa, Japan launched a paid eVisa (~INR 450 via agencies) in Sept 2025. There are still 60+ countries an Indian passport holder can enter with minimal friction; this is the corrected May-2026 picture, with the changes flagged.

Tier 1, Visa-free on arrival, no paperwork (about 24 countries). Thailand (30 days, visa-exempt, was 60, reverted 21 May 2026, TDAC mandatory), Indonesia (30 days, including Bali, note this is the visa-on-arrival variant at $35), Malaysia (30 days, walk-in, extension through 31 Dec 2026, MDAC mandatory), Sri Lanka (30 days, FREE ETA confirmed through 2026 under Cabinet April 2026 extension), Kazakhstan (14 days, walk-in), Nepal (unlimited with Aadhaar), Bhutan (15 days but with the ₹1,200/day Sustainable Development Fee), Maldives (90 days), Qatar (30 days VoA, extendable +30, Discover Qatar portal hotel mandatory), Hong Kong (14 days with free Pre-Arrival Registration, 6-month multi-entry validity), Macau (30 days), Mauritius (90 days), Seychelles (30 days), Cook Islands (31 days), Vanuatu (30 days), Fiji (4 months), Samoa (60 days), Niue (30 days), Senegal (90 days), Gambia (90 days), Saint Lucia (42 days), Saint Vincent (1 month), Grenada (3 months), Dominica (180 days), Trinidad & Tobago (90 days), Tunisia (90 days). Note: Iran's visa-free pilot was SUSPENDED in late November 2025 due to trafficking incidents, Indians now need a pre-arrival visa for Iran. Bolivia downgraded from VoA to e-Visa in 2026.

The 2026 dropouts from Tier 1. Thailand, was 60 days visa-exempt (Jul 2024–May 2026), Cabinet reverted to 30 days on 21 May 2026. Same FREE stamp, shorter duration. For 31+ day stays, paid e-Visa (~INR 3,000) or DTV digital-nomad visa. Vietnam, was visa-exempt briefly in 2024-25, now requires a paid e-Visa: $25 single-entry or $50 multiple-entry, 90 days. Iran, visa-free pilot SUSPENDED late Nov 2025. Bolivia, downgraded from VoA to e-Visa in 2026. See Thailand reversion post and Vietnam paid e-Visa post for details.

Tier 2, e-Visa or VOA you apply online (about 30 countries). Vietnam ($25 single-entry / $50 multiple-entry e-Visa, 90 days, ~3-day processing), Japan (paid eVisa since Sep 2025, ~INR 450 consular fee via accredited agencies; NOT free), South Korea (sticker visa via KVAC, ~INR 3,400, note Indians are NOT on the K-ETA eligibility list; K-ETA is for visa-waiver-program nationalities), Taiwan (pre-departure sticker visa ~INR 4,800 OR free TAC if you hold US/UK/CA/JP/AU/NZ/KR/Schengen visa, TWAC arrival card mandatory online within 3 days before arrival since Oct 2025), Turkey (e-Visa ₹4,000), UAE (paid e-Visa ₹6,500 standard, the AED 100 + 5% VAT (~USD 28.50 / ₹2,715) 14-day VoA is ONLY if you hold a valid US/UK/EU/AU/CA visa; see the UAE under-30 myth post), Saudi Arabia ($80 e-Visa), Cambodia ($30 e-Visa, ₹2,500), Laos ($40 e-Visa), Myanmar (e-Visa ₹3,000), Singapore (e-Visa ₹2,000), Egypt (pre-departure e-Visa $25 single / $60 multi, VoA NOT available for Indians), Georgia ($35 e-Visa 30 days, NOT visa-free 1 year, despite the rumour; mandatory health & accident insurance ≥30,000 GEL / ~$11k from 1 Jan 2026; see Georgia correction post), Jordan, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Uganda, Mozambique, Burkina Faso, Comoros, Madagascar, Bahrain, Oman, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan (30 days visa-free in practice but counted here for completeness).

Tier 3, Full embassy visa application required. USA (B1/B2, ₹15,000+ fee, 6-12 month wait), UK (visitor visa ₹15,000, 15-21 day processing), Schengen 27-country block (₹8,500, 15-30 days, see Schengen embassy strategy), Canada (TRV, ₹6,800), Australia (eVisitor, ₹14,000), New Zealand (₹13,000), China (₹9,000), Russia (₹6,500 e-Visa is back as of 2025).

Tier 4, Special conditions. Bhutan: SDF ₹1,200/day on top of all costs, concession rate for Indians, but still adds ₹84,000 for a 7-day trip for two. Maldives: free entry but resort prices push daily spend to ₹15,000+ unless you stay on a local island. North Korea, Yemen, Libya: requires special invitation; not practical for tourism in 2026.

Friction summary, ranked. From easiest to hardest for an Indian passport holder in 2026: Nepal (no paperwork ever) → Sri Lanka (free ETA, 5-minute form) → Indonesia/Malaysia/Thailand (walk-in 30 days, Thailand needs TDAC, Malaysia needs MDAC) → Vietnam ($25 paid e-Visa, ~3 days) → UAE/Japan/Singapore (paid e-Visa, document set) → Schengen/UK (3-week embassy application, ₹8,500-15,000) → USA (months-long embassy queue, ₹15,000+).

FAQ. Has the Indian passport actually improved over the last 3 years? Yes, net positive, Sri Lanka free ETA, Kazakhstan opened, Japan paid eVisa launched (still cheaper than the old VFS sticker route at ~₹450), even with Thailand cut from 60→30 days and Vietnam tightening, the count of low-friction destinations grew by 12 since 2022. Which is the single biggest "should know about" country for Indians in 2026? Kazakhstan, 14 days visa-free, almost no Indian tourists, Tien Shan mountains. Where is the biggest 2026 disappointment? Thailand cut from 60 back to 30 days on 21 May 2026; Iran suspended its visa-free pilot late Nov 2025; expect more reversals as governments react to overstay rates.
