Kazakhstan visa-free for Indian passport — Central Asia's open door

Kazakhstan opened to Indian passports in 2024. 14 days visa-free, ₹32k flights from Delhi, and almost zero Indian tourists. The mountains are 90 min from Almaty.

Kazakhstan dropped visa requirements for Indian passports in mid-2024. 14-day stay, single entry per 180 days, no application needed. Almost nobody in the Indian travel community knows.

Why it's underrated: Almaty has Soviet brutalism downtown + Tien Shan mountains 90 minutes away, accessible by ₹2-3k day-trip taxi. Kolsai Lakes, Charyn Canyon, Big Almaty Lake — all photographable, all empty of Indian tourists.

Flights: Delhi-Almaty direct on Air Astana ₹32-38k, 4-hour flight. Mumbai needs a Doha/Sharjah connect (~₹45k). Chennai/Bangalore — same connecting route.

Russian-language gotcha: Most signs in Almaty are bilingual Kazakh+Russian. English exists in tourist zones but disappears 10 minutes outside. Download Yandex Translate offline before flying.

Mid-range stays: ₹3-5k/night in Almaty. Hostels exist (₹1k/night) but staff English is hit-or-miss.

The 7-day Kazakhstan template opens a prefilled plan: 2d Almaty + 2d Kolsai + 1d Charyn + 1d Big Almaty Lake + 1d transit.
