## Why Bangkok wins for first-timers
- Cheap. A nice 4-star is Rs 3,500/night vs Rs 8,000 in Singapore. - Indian food everywhere — Sukhumvit Soi 11, Pahurat (Little India), Khaosan all have it. - Easy to navigate with BTS Skytrain + Grab. - No visa stress.
## Why Singapore wins anyway (sometimes)
- Family with kids or elderly parents — Singapore is cleaner, safer, and English is everywhere. - You hate haggling — Bangkok markets need haggling, Singapore doesn't. - Universal Studios, Gardens by the Bay, S.E.A. Aquarium are genuinely world-class. - Stopover potential — you can do Singapore in 3 days as part of a wider Asia trip.
## Scam warnings
Bangkok: - Grand Palace closed scam — tuk-tuk driver tells you the palace is closed, offers a cheap "city tour" that ends at gem shops. Just walk past, the palace is always open. - Tuk-tuk overcharge — agree the price first or use Grab. - Ping pong show touts — avoid entirely.
Singapore: Genuinely very few scams. Watch for fake Sentosa "skip the line" sellers near VivoCity.
## Connectivity
Both have great eSIM coverage. Singapore's free public Wi-Fi (Wireless@SG) is solid too.
## Money
Singapore is card-everywhere, Bangkok needs cash for street food and tuk-tuks. Load a Niyo or Scapia forex card for both.
