Schengen rule: apply through the embassy of the country where you'll spend the MOST days, or the FIRST entry country if days are equal. France and Germany are the easiest issuers for Indians (lower rejection rates, ~12-15%); Italy and Switzerland are stricter (~20-25% rejection). Book the VFS slot 6-8 weeks ahead — May-Sep slots fill 10 weeks out. Mandatory: 30,000 EUR travel insurance, hotel bookings for every night, return ticket, ITR (last 2 years), bank statement (₹4 lakh+ balance typical), employer NOC, day-by-day itinerary. Biometrics required every 59 months. From Jan 2026 the EU ETIAS system kicks in for non-Schengen visa holders — Indians still need the standard Schengen visa, ETIAS does not apply.
