Insider notes & gotchas
US B1/B2 visa is the highest-friction visa Indians apply for — ₹16,000 ($185) MRV fee + ₹500 OFC biometrics + a ~5-minute in-person interview. Book the interview slot on ustraveldocs.com 4 months ahead — Mumbai is the slowest (6-12 weeks for the slot), Hyderabad and Chennai are slightly faster. The 'dropbox' interview waiver applies if you've had a US visa in the last 48 months. Bring: DS-160 confirmation, MRV receipt, passport, photo, employer letter, ITR (3 years), bank statements (6 months), property docs, family ties evidence. 10-year multi-entry is the standard issue. Strong rejection signals: blank passport, no prior international travel, recent job change, single + young. See /visa/usa for the document checklist and /tools/visa-odds to model your approval probability.
